Self Insured Employee Medical Plans
SDN has advised and assisted a number of our clients in the creation of self insured employee medical plans. We offer assistance in plan design, in suggesting and offering competitive third party administrators and in the placement of stop loss insurance.

With health care costs rising annually at alarming rates with no end in sight, many companies are looking at alternative medical plans including self insured plans. If you are not sure that you may qualify or are large enough to consider such an alternative, we would be happy to assist with an analysis of the data.

Medical Stop Loss Insurance
SDN has placed a significant amount of stop loss or excess insurance for companies who sponsor self-insured employee medical plans. The insurance contract can offer both specific and aggregate coverage depending upon the circumstances. Specific attachment points range from a low of $25,000 per illness to a high of $300,000 per illness. While aggregate coverage is not necessary, many companies buy this coverage to cap their exposure at a known and predetermined level.

We have relationships with approximately 10 companies that will write this coverage in New York and often times, one of our markets will be substantially more competitive than the quote received from the third party administrator. Further, an independent broker interfacing with the stop loss carrier will sometimes uncover errors made by the third party administrator, which may otherwise not surface.

As stop loss insurance is the least costly of the three major components, following claim expense and third party administrative expenses, it can still be a costly item. A number of our clients have found that it pays to have an independent party market their stop loss insurance.
